First report of apple bitter rot caused by Colletotrichum godetiae in the UK

Anthracnose is an important disease for apple production as well as a postharvest problem in several countries worldwide. HoweverColletotrichum species have been a major problem on crops such as strawberry in Europe and the UK. Recently the reports of Colletotrichum acutatum on different hosts are increasing and a new taxonomic re-assessment published by the CBS provide a useful platform for a better understanding of host association patterns of this important pathogen. We believe it is important to document the occurrence of this pathogen across different hosts in European countries.
